The historic Flat Iron Building still stands as a symbol of Griffith Electric
Supply Co., Inc., at the intersection of Broad Street and Second Street in the
heart of what was Trenton’s industrial center.
Here in 1938 a young couple took a chance they could make a living selling
electrical supplies and created a company that today supports over 50 employees
and supplies many of our states finest contractors with electrical material to
feed the construction boom of our time.
Bill and Meta Griffith would make a good case study of the young
entrepreneurs of the era. Starting with a wing and a prayer, they weathered
political, economic and social storms over a half-century, staying strong in
their belief in the heart of community. Their small business moved along
steadily, gaining strength and momentum to become a vital part of New Jersey’s
economy.
Meta A. Griffith made a name for herself when she stepped into her husbands’
shoes after his death in 1971. For more than half of Griffith Electric’s
existence she built on the foundation she and Bill started and found her way to
the top of a male dominated industry, competing with bigger and stronger
distributors, by offering steadfast service to faithful customers who, like
her, were deeply rooted in the Trenton area.
With recent new branch openings in Bridgewater, NJ, Robbinsville, NJ and our
newest location in Lumberton, NJ, Burlington County, Griffith Electric has
expanded to satisfy the demands of its customers and to offer its services to a
larger market.
Today, Trenton’s main facility stocks over 15,000 items in it’s 75,000
square-foot warehouse, with an extensive line of quality electrical materials
and supplies for construction, industry, commercial businesses, government and
the home. Our products include switch gear, lighting, transformers, wiring
devices, GFCI products, surge suppressors, motor starters, conduit fittings,
ladders, data communication products, and a wide array of specialty items.
Griffith Electric Supply operates a fleet of trucks that deliver to customers
across New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. If you purchase in our Trenton
location you will derive sales tax benefits as we are located in a designated
Urban Enterprise Zone.
In this ever changing industry, Griffith Electric is a leader in our market
